John's Background
​
John Tutko was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He spent much of his formative years in the St. Louis area where he started his career in the restaurant business. After an impressive 20+ year career as a chef, cooking for friends and presidents alike, John decided to hang up his chef’s coat for his life-long passion; woodworking.
In 2006, John started work with a local construction company to “get his feet wet” in the industry and learned many tricks of the trade. ​Shortly thereafter, Tutko’s Fine Woodworking was formed.

What began as a basement hobby at home, John has owned his own wood shop for nearly 20 years. Every year he acquires new tools and abilities to apply to his craft. After nearly 2 decades at it, he can build just about anything you can dream of!
John designs and creates custom furnishings and unique wood products handmade in Colorado Springs. Many of his products are created from reclaimed woods and beetle kill pine. One of his specialties is his line of wine crate creations. Wood taken from the boxes that wine is shipped in is transformed into elegant pieces of art and functional furniture.

John utilizes his unique experience as a chef when executing projects like full bars or kitchen spaces. In recent years, John has collaborated with prestigious establishments like the Broadmoor and its various restaurants to create bespoke cutting boards, serving trays and even banquet tables!
